About

"So lucky to have friends like these..."

Otherness is a celebration of unlikely connections and close friendships that have developed over the last decade between Barossa Restaurateur Grant Dickson and local South Australian winemakers. Chance encounters, shared enthusiasms and a willingness to embrace new, perhaps untried possibilities within a region often unfairly stereotyped for producing only richly styled wine.

The Otherness project is always respectful of the Barossa’s status quo. It has no mandate to alter the region’s viticultural or winemaking landscape. The collaborating winemakers’ own projects are often representative of the best of the traditional winemaking practices that continue to draw enthusiastic visitors to our region; wine enthusiasts hungrily collect the wines that they release under their own labels.

OTHERNESS IS THE LATEST EDITION TO THE BAROSSA FOOD & WINE SCENE

BOOK A TABLE AT OTHERNESS

What initially started as a series of winemaking collaborations between esteemed local winemakers and Grant Dickson has since morphed into all-encompassing food and wine lovers delight. Situated in the main street of Angaston, Otherness is many things to many people – A premium wine producer working with some of the most respected winemakers in the country, a cellar door, wine bar & food destination.

One of the charms of Otherness is how it reveals itself throughout the day.

From 11am Wine tasting, Wine Sales, Delicatessen, Coffee
Book in for a wine tasting and taste through the Otherness range made by some of the most talented winemakers in Australia such as; Dan Standish, Neil Pike, Ian Hongell, John Hughes, Mark Bulman, Marco Cirillo, Steve Baraglia, Alex MacClelland and Craig Stansborough… Or just take a seat and watch the village of Angaston come to life over coffee, while the local winemaking fraternity file through to peruse the shelves for a bottle to take away and drink later – Chablis, Beaujolais, German Riesling or something local, it’s catered for in what has inconspicuously become Barossa’s most exciting “bottle shop”.

From 12noon Lunch & wine service. Simple tasty dishes, perfect with a glass of wine!
Otherness’ menu has been masterfully curated by Sam Smith & Emily Thomas; two of the most talented chefs in the country. They have perfected the art of quality, simple, tasty food with class and sophistication… Just add wine!

From 3pm Unwind and forget the world with a glass of something nice.
The perfect place to escape and enjoy a quiet drink, whether it’s a glass of Riesling, international wine, amaro or an evening cocktail, we have you covered.

From 6pm Dinner & Drinks
Sit down, relax, eat & drink well. We have taken the seriousness out of quality dining and created a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy great food and wine with the community at heart. Once again you are shown the true talents of the Otherness kitchen with an inspired menu, while you are reminded why Grant Dickson was previously responsible for winning ‘Australia’s Wine List of the Year’.
