A Taste of Otherness: Stories from Behind the Bar
Spring at Otherness is not just about what’s on the plate. It’s about who creates it, where it comes from, and the stories behind every bite and sip.
As the new season breathes fresh energy into the Barossa, our team has quietly crafted and curated an experience that’s more than a menu. It celebrates local talent, seasonal produce, and thoughtful collaboration.
One example? Emily’s Jersey Cheese is now back on our menu. After learning the art of cheesemaking in Northern Italy, Emily brings a hands-on, small-batch approach to her cheeses. It’s artisan produce with soul and pairs beautifully with a glass of our Riesling or skin-contact whites.
Our drinks list has had a spring refresh, too. Enter Tess’s Mocktail — a rotating, seasonal no-alc option made in-house. Right now? A zesty, refreshing Blood Orange No-jito, made with fruit at its peak. (Prefer something stronger? Just ask — we’ll gladly make it a cocktail.)
Coffee lovers will appreciate the addition of Two Fish Coffee, roasted locally in Stirling by Ryan Battye, who moonlights as a dentist by day and coffee roaster by weekend. These quirky, quality-led connections give the Otherness experience its flavour — beyond food and wine.
Also this month is Symposium No.8 on 18 September, a unique tasting event featuring Neil Pike’s his Limefinger Rieslings and the first couple of vintages of our ‘Urth’ Riesling that he created, accompanied by live jazz from his talented wife, AJ. This event captures the spirit of Otherness — unexpected, collaborative, and curated with care.
Just down the road, Sandor has started building the Otherness Chef’s Garden at Grant’s house—an exciting step toward growing more of our own produce. For now, it’s a patch of dirt with promise, but we’ll be documenting its growth in the months ahead.
